Our itineraries can help guide your travels on the Scenic Byway

Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway takes you through the beautiful and diverse countryside of coastal Alabama, where you can enjoy the sights and attractions along the way.

Go wild with wetlands

Part of the amazing diversity of the southernmost tip of Alabama is the wetlands in the coastal barrier habitats. These undeveloped lands also include beach dunes and maritime forests that offer protection for a multitude of wildlife, including migrating birds, the endangered beach mouse and nesting sea turtles.

Wildflowers take center stage along the Scenic Byway in May

Wildflowers grow all along the byway,  especially in open fields from Grand Bay to Dauphin Island and from Orange Beach to Foley and farther north. On the edges of wetlands and swampy areas, look for the swamp rose mallow, a tall plant with a large, pink, five-petal flower, a favorite summer wildflower on Alabama’s coast.

Celebrate Earth Day on Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Earth Day, April 22, than by taking a drive along the Scenic Byway through the diverse ecosystem of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Dauphin Island Sea Lab Discovery Day set for April 10

Exhibits for Discovery Day include marine-themed games, touch tables, and arts and crafts. Community agencies will be there, as well as the Azalea Trail Maids and Smokey the Bear.

There is no equal to Bellingrath Gardens and Home for spring beauty

Imagine, if you will, a southern estate sitting on 65 acres of lush gardens. An estate with more than 250,000 vibrant azaleas, 2,000 rose plants representing 36 varieties, hydrangeas, beautiful tropical plants, and a 10,500-square-foot home to tour. You don’t have to imagine it, though. Just plan a visit to Bellingrath Gardens and Home this spring.

Enjoy a day of outdoor activities at Graham Creek Nature Preserve

Are you ready to come out and play? One of the most versatile attractions along Alabama’s Coastal Connection is Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley. Taking a short drive from the Foley Beach Express rewards you with more than 500 acres to explore.
