Mums, stars, planters and Civil War history are in store for visitors to Bellingrath Gardens and Home this month. Bellingrath’s summer series of Wonderful Wednesdays continues through July with informative sessions and hands-on workshops.
Can you imagine what goes into creating the largest outdoor display of cascading chrysanthemums in the country? Find out July 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Growing Cascade Chrysanthemums program features a behind-the-scenes mum production tour with Director of Horticulture Chuck Owens.
Grab your binoculars and flashlights when you head to Bellingrath July 18 for Viewing the Summer Sky from 8 to 10 p.m. Telescopes will be set up on the Great Lawn to view planets and constellations after a presentation by a member of the University of South Alabama Department of Physics.
Get creative with your own one-of-a-kind planter July 21. From 6 to 8 p.m., take part in the Terra Cotta Planter Workshop. A $25 fee is required to cover the cost of the supplies.
On July 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., dive into Mobile’s Civil War history with Paula Webb, a tenured librarian at the University of South Alabama and the author of “Mobile Under Siege: Surviving the Union Blockade” and “Such a Woman: The Life of Octavia Walton LeVert.”
