Birders flock to Dauphin Island for spring migration

Along Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway, the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island is well known for its variety of feathered visitors. As a matter of fact, of the 445 species of birds documented in Alabama, 95% of them have been spotted on Dauphin Island. With 137 acres of maritime forest, dunes and swamps, the sanctuary provides a safe habitat for our winged friends.

Add Winter Wednesdays at Bellingrath to your to-do list

The 2021 Winter Wednesdays program runs from January 6 to February 24. The sessions begin at 10:30 a.m. and usually last about an hour - and they are included in your admission price. The workshops cover a special feature of the gardens or home, guest lectures from renowned members of the horticultural and gardening world, and tips for making your own garden more spectacular.

The Gulf State Park campground is home away from home for winter visitors

Located close to the beach and connected to the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, Gulf State Park is a highly sought-after winter camping haven. In fact, their website indicates that monthly reservations for November 2021–March 2022 opened on December 1.
