Take to the byway and celebrate Family Fun Month as you explore coastal Alabama. Kid-friendly activities are easy to come by on Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway.
On the west side of Mobile Bay, you’ll find a variety of attractions. The Estuarium, a public aquarium on Dauphin Island, includes a 10,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 7,000-gallon stingray touch pool and a living marsh boardwalk. For the garden lovers, Bellingrath Gardens and Home covers 65 acres with year-round blooms and floral beauty.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is the fast and fun way across the bay to Baldwin County. The rails of the ferry offer a great view of birds, sea life and boats traveling the channel on the 40-minute ride.
On the east side of the bay, the sugar-white sand beaches take center stage for family fun. But there’s more to the southern tip of Baldwin County than beautiful beaches. Gulf State Park and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail combine to create more than 25 miles of paved trails for hiking or biking. Travel a little to the north to play a friendly game of disc golf at Graham Creek Nature Preserve. Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve features boardwalk trails, an interpretive center with indoor displays, live animals and a pitcher plant bog.
