The Mobile Bay Ferry Service, connecting Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan, is much more than a means of transportation. Considered “the Gulf Coast’s Most Scenic Drive,” the ferry offers a one-of-a-kind experience.
The ferry began service in the 1980s as a privately owned entity, but since 2005 has been handled by HMS Global Maritime through the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Some passengers board simply to get from one side of the bay to the other in a quick 35 minutes. Others gain passage on the ferry just for the experience of crossing Mobile Bay. This vessel provides travelers a unique vantage point from the observation decks. Gliding across the gentle waves, there’s a sense of peace and stillness. The beautiful blue water surrounds passengers as they slowly drift to shore with wind-blown hair and smiling faces.
It’s an often overlooked attraction that’s one of the many treasures of Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway. For more information, visit the Mobile Ferry website.
