Summer is here, and we’ve picked out our favorite stops along the byway to cool off, rehydrate and take a load off – Alabama style. When venturing along the beach byway, stop by one of these local favorites for something to sip on.
Fins on Dauphin Island has a reputation for being the island’s “Most Comfortable Bar.” Is it the colorful chairs, the welcoming staff or the huge selection of craft beers? Fins is exactly what you’d expect in a beach bar: cold beer, live music and patrons looking to have a good time.
Looking for the Pink Pony Pub? It’s impossible to miss. Its cotton candy pink exterior is a sight to behold, and its unofficial motto, “Surviving hurricanes since 1956,” gives you an idea of the vibe inside. Directly on the beach, Pink Pony is a great place to grab seafood, pub fare and beachy drinks, of course.
For the coolest waterfront dining on the coast, there’s The Gulf. High-end décor, seasonal menus and a hip vibe set this joint apart. Grab a fresh cocktail, sink your toes in the sand, enjoy local, sustainable bites, and don’t leave before you check out the highly curated gift shop.
Don’t judge a bar by its size! Fairhope’s pint-sized Tongue and Groove Drinkery specializes in creating Instagram-worthy craft cocktails fashioned by their mixologists. Their friendly bartenders and high-end atmosphere provide a welcoming environment to sit and stay for a while.
Spanish Fort’s most notable watering hole is hard to miss. Trader’s is shaped like a geometric dome and raised up high, so you’ll want to snap some photos of this local haunt before you enter. Once inside, patrons are greeted by a friendly bartender, live music and incredible panoramic views of Mobile Bay.
There’s no better way to beat the summer heat than with a fruity cocktail or ice-cold brew along Alabama’s Coastal Connection. This list is in no way comprehensive, but it’s a great place to start. Where’s your first stop?
