May 18 marks a significant day for many history buffs: International Museum Day. Mark your calendar now and start planning to enjoy at least one museum and help raise awareness of the challenges that these historic parts of our community face.

Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway has a number of spots to connect with the past. Even if you’ve visited them before, there’s always something new to learn!

Fort Morgan

Learn about the Civil War and Battle of Mobile Bay at the fort’s museum, then tour the grounds to bring that information to life.

Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum 

View local artifacts and valuable pieces connected to Native American and fishing heritage that are housed in a one-room schoolhouse from yesteryear.

Gulf Shores Museum

Permanent and rotating exhibits focused on the history of Gulf Shores provide a sense of the hardships and joys that shape this city today.

Foley Railroad Museum

History can be fun! Don’t miss this entertaining opportunity to learn about the importance of railway transportation in Foley’s development. Check out the train exhibit and catch a train ride around the park.

Baldwin County Heritage Museum 

Gain insight into the development of this Southern Alabama county by exploring sentimental collections provided by the men and women who built the community.
