Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway hiking trailhas stops along the coast for everyone. Below are some of the stops made for the avid hiker. If that’s you or someone in your family/friend group, follow along! These are places that you’re going to want to hit along the scenic byway.

Audubon Bird Sanctuary

Located in Dauphin Island, the Audubon Bird Sanctuary is 137 acres of maritime forest, marshes, dunes, a lake, swamp land, and a beach. Multiple walking trails can be found along this 14-mile-long barrier island. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary is known as a National Recreational Trail with a 3-mile trail system.

Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge

Located in Gulf Shores, the Pine Beach Trail has it all. You will see beaches, sand dunes, forest, fresh and saltwater marshes, and fresh and saltwater swamps. Hop on the 3-mile trail to enjoy the outdoors and nature, and count how many different animals you see.

Eastern Shore Trail

Located on the east side of Mobile Bay, the Eastern Shore Trail is a beautiful pathway that runs through many towns in Coastal Alabama. Amazing bay views with oak canopied roadways run from Spanish Fort to Weeks Bay. You will pass through Daphne, Montrose, Fairhope, Battles Wharf and Point Clear on the 22-mile trail. Mostly concrete and asphalt, you’ll encounter some elevated boardwalks and high-rise bridges.

Put your hiking shoes on, grab a friend or family member, and cherish your time outdoors on the trail.
