One of the many family-friendly activities along Alabama’s Coastal Connection is bird watching. Any time of year, you can see a variety of year-round feathered residents along the trails and beaches of the byway. Fall is the prime time for birdwatching in our area, as migrating birds gather at the coast to prepare for their long journey south across the water.
Each year, birders and nature lovers gather for the premier birding event, the John L. Borom Alabama Coastal BirdFest. The 2021 birdfest will be held October 6-9, with registration open from August 9 through September 26.
The Alabama Coastal BirdFest, a four-day event, attracts birdwatching enthusiasts from across the United States and Canada. Attendees are encouraged to join expert guides on boat and walking excursions that provide a chance to see more than 370 bird species.
Money raised from the event helps preserve and protect vital coastal bird and wildlife habitat and brings awareness of the amazing biological diversity of the Alabama Gulf Coast. Consult the schedule of events to discover the full lineup of planned activities.
