backcountry-trailCooler mornings and pleasantly warm days are the signatures of the changing season in Coastal Alabama. Summer has faded and fall is beginning to take its place. It may only be a slight difference – a little less humidity, a bit of a cool breeze early in the day and the daytime temperatures a few degrees lower than the highs of late summer – but it’s a welcome shift.

Fall is our favorite time to enjoy a walk on one of the many trails on Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway. With such a wide selection, how do you choose which trail?

When in the mood for a scenic walk overlooking Mobile Bay, head over to the Eastern Shore Trail For full immersion in natural landscapes, any one of the four trails in Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge could be what you are looking for.

The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail connects with Gulf State Park for 28 miles of paved trails and boardwalks. A more rustic experience can be enjoyed at Graham Creek Nature Preserve, home to numerous unpaved trails for hikers and wildlife watchers.
