Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway winds its way through some of the most beautiful and diverse lands in Alabama. The convergence of five rivers as they make their way to the Gulf of Mexico creates the fourth largest estuary system in the United States. Sugar-white sand beaches along the coast attract millions of visitors each year. Keeping the area pristine for future generations is the responsibility of everyone.
Our number one priority is to protect and preserve the natural resources along the byway. You can help care for the animals and plants along the way by following a few guidelines:
- When at the beach or on nature trails, avoid walking on the vegetation.
- Step carefully and stay away from bird nesting areas. Adult birds can be frightened, and nests can be easy to trample as they are camouflaged on the ground.
- Leave found items in place. Shells, driftwood and other items help keep the natural ecosystem intact.
- Pick up your trash before you leave. Bring an extra bag and pick up any trash you see along the way.
- When traveling or at home, carry a reusable bag when shopping to avoid creating more waste with plastic bags.
Enjoy the beauty of Alabama’s coast and remember to be a good steward to the environment as you travel.
