people sitting on a bench watching the sunset over water It would be hard for us to pick a favorite season on Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway. If we did, summer would surely be in the running. The deep greens of the foliage and grasses line the byway with a dotting of colorful wildflower blooms. The scents of summer linger in the air around the fields and pasturelands. Fresh seafood is abundant and the days at the beach are filled with laughter and the squeals of children playing in the sand and water.

On your summer journey, we recommend taking your time and spending a few days exploring out-of-the way places such as Bayou La Batre, a traditional fishing village in Mobile County, or the Baldwin County Heritage Museum in Elberta. There is something new to see and do around each bend of our coastal roads.

Enjoy lunch on the water in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, or a stop at OWA,  in Foley, where an amusement park features the Rolling Thunder roller coaster and its downtown area is filled with shopping and dining optionsTravel west from Foley and the finishing touch of your day could be a stroll along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay to watch the sunset.
