Gulf Shores MuseumMost visitors to Coastal Alabama know of the rich history and accounts associated with Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines  during the Civil War. These forts were around long before and after the Battle of Mobile Bay, and each location has its own museum filled with pictures and memorabilia relating to times past.   

The two famous forts aren’t alone in depicting the history of communities along Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway. Plan time during your visit to explore the past and learn about the culture of Coastal Alabama as you travel the byway.  

The Baldwin County Heritage Museum in Elberta focuses on the ethnic and farming culture of Baldwin County. Native flora and fauna – more than 100 species – can be found throughout the property.  

The 15-room Bellingrath Museum Home was built in 1935. All the original furnishings and appliances remain in the Bellingrath’s former residence.  

Until 1971, a spur from the L&N Railroad ended about a mile south of Foley. When the services were discontinued, the depot was moved. In 1995, the city moved it back to its original location and turned it into a museum with pictures and artifacts that bring to life the culture of South Baldwin County. The building also includes an elaborate 60×20-foot “O” gauge model train exhibit. Check their website for operating times.   

Fairhope’s 1928 Spanish Mission-style City Hall is home to the Fairhope Museum of History. Highlighted here are the original jail, mayor’s office and town council chamber, plus a fire station outfitted with an original 1935 firetruck.  

The Gulf Shores Museum building was originally a beach house with a rich history. The museum features information about hurricanes and fishing villages, as well as a butterfly garden and more.  

Housed in the second oldest church building in Baldwin County, the Old Methodist Church Museum of Daphne contains artifacts from around Baldwin County. The onsite cemetery dates back to 1847.  

The Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum contains the history of this fishing community and the area’s original Native American inhabitants.   

The Holmes Medical Museum is housed in what had been the first hospital in South Baldwin County (1936-1958). The rooms of the museum contain extensive displays of medical equipment from the 1930s and 40s.
