The beauty of the Gulf Coast is bountiful, providing a constantly changing perspective for many generations of artists. With a variety of scenery from wildlife to diverse landscapes, every day sparks new ideas for these creative minds and oh-so-skilled hands.
Local painter Nick Cantrell draws his inspiration from his love of Gulf Coast nature and wildlife. From his vivid sea nettles to his red snapper, osprey and dreamy landscapes, his batik watercolor work is a joy to see.
Dan Rush, resident glass artist at the Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach, depends on the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico as a muse for his glass wave pieces. Same goes for Kerry Parks with her jaw-dropping conch shell glass pieces. You can watch both of these amazing glass artists at work in The Hot Shop, and even jump in on the action and create your own piece of art.
Speaking of creating your own art, the Coastal Arts Center is the place to let your imagination run wild. In addition to the glass-blowing classes at The Hot Shop, you might also choose ceramic classes with the talented Maya Cantrell or Paint your Art Out with Casey Scott. Not only do the wonderful instructors make each class fun, you also get to enjoy the beautiful bayfront setting.
Inside the Coastal Arts Center gallery, you can view even more amazing work by the likes of featured local wood artists Larry Manuel, Mike Francis and Peter Von Glahn with “Walk in the Woods.” View alligators, sailfish, birds and so much more created by these local wood artists. And be sure to stop in the gift shop, where you can pick up meaningful souvenirs and home décor items as well as wonderful surprises for your family and friends.
We’re proud to have so many talented artists living and working along the coast. Come admire the art and take some of it home with you – but also explore your own creative side next time you are in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
