Discovery Hall programs of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab offer a variety of day and overnight camps, with options for young children to a high school-age marine science course that may grant students credit toward their diplomas. Day camps include Oceans Alive! for 5 to 8 year olds; BIO Blitz for 8 to 10 year olds, and Survivor-Dauphin Island for 10 to 13 year olds. Email sejohnson@disl.org for more information.

 

Weekly summer day camps are on the ship’s log for 2016 at the GulfQuest Maritime Museum in Mobile. There are several camp choices for kids in grades 1-7, including Junior Explorers; Soldiers, Sailors and Shipbuilders; and Shipwrights and Shipwrecks. Work with the University of Alabama’s Theatre Department at SummerTide’s Drama Camp at South Baldwin Community Theatre in Gulf Shores. Camps run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and campers perform an end-of-camp show each Saturday. Sessions will be held June 7 to 11 for beginners, June 14-18 for intermediate students, and June 21-25 for advanced levels. Campers learn movement, music, scene work and improv. Backcountry nature trails, ziplines, beaches, pool, splash pad, Lake Shelby boating, Gulf of Mexico fishing, golf and geocaching events are all part of Kidcam. DownUnder Dive Shop offers PADI Seal Team for young divers who wish to learn such skills as underwater photography, navigation and environmental awareness. The three-day camps begin on May 31 and run through Aug. 16. Parents are invited to come along on the snorkel adventures. The City of Gulf Shores offers SPARC Summer Programs for children who have completed grades kindergarten through sixth grade. SPARC stands for Strengthening Potential through Arts, Recreation and Culture. SPARC offers a variety of programs: Earth, Explorers, Sports, Talent, Work and Fun Fridays. Games, arts and crafts, movies, music, swimming, field trips and special events are activities enjoyed at Camp Sunshine, sponsored by the City of Orange Beach Parks and Recreation department. Beginning May 31 and running until the Friday before school starts, Camp Sunshine is available to year-round residents of Orange Beach who are going into grades K-6.
