Our winter friends are flocking to Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, and we don't mean the feathered ones. Welcome back, Snowbirds!

For some of our winter friends, the migration to Gulf Shores & Orange Beach began as early as November. The season is now in full swing with January, February and March as the most popular overwintering months of the year. Each year, thousands of snowbirds trade their bone-chilling winters for the mild temperatures of the Gulf Coast. The coastal region offers more than just a respite from the cold. Here winter visitors will find everything from golf, social gatherings, fishing, beachcombing, bird watching, sports, concerts and entertainment…the list goes on and on.

State snowbird clubs allow visitors to socialize with other residents of their states. The clubs offer some friendly competition between other state clubs, and allow members to create friendships that last beyond the winter season. Many clubs help raise money for community organizations such as libraries, schools and fire and rescue organizations. One event that is an annual favorite is the 15th Snowbird Bratfest slated Feb. 2, benefiting the Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue Department. Hundreds of brats will be served to both snowbirds and locals, alike.

February also means Mardi Gras season along the Gulf Coast. Mardi Gras is a magical time when revelers celebrate carnivale , boasting countless parades, parties and even formal balls. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch some moon pies and beads and let the good times roll!

In addition to this seasonal celebration, Snowbirds can simply enjoy the beauty of the Gulf beaches and the splendor of the nature along the Gulf Coast. There are so many opportunities to enjoy the lovely weather and the surroundings the beach destination has to offer.
