Gulf State Park boasts 6,500 acres of land that includes 2.5 miles of beachfront; a beach pavilion with restrooms, showers and shaded picnic tables; three freshwater lakes; a swimming pool; a golf course; a nature center and more. The park offers hundreds of full-hookup campsites, modern air-conditioned bathhouses, laundry facilities and recreational activities. Those who prefer to rough it will have their choice of primitive sites.
If you’re leaving the byway to explore 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center, plant your tent at Meaher State Park. Located on the causeway, this park sits on 1,327 acres of the wetlands of Mobile Bay. Take a walk along the 300-foot pier where you can fish with an Alabama freshwater license. There’s also a boat ramp, so bring along the kayak or john boat. If you don’t have a kayak, the folks at 5 Rivers will be happy to provide a rental.
At the Dauphin Island Campground in South Mobile County, campers can enjoy bicycle rentals, a playground, a recently constructed bathhouse, a boat launch, a private beach, and trails for walking and bicycling.
Get that camping gear aired out, then hop in the car for a great road trip on the Alabama coast.
