Grab a paddle and get ready to explore! Kayaking through Graham Creek Nature Preserve is a wonderful way to experience the byway’s natural beauty any month of the year. If you’re looking for an active and educational experience for yourself or your family, this is a Foley, Ala. favorite.

Graham Creek Nature Preserve is home to nearly 500 acres of diverse habitats, including bottomland wetlands, mixed forests, tidal marshes and pine savannas. The preserve’s kayak and canoe launch provides access to a 2-mile paddle through brackish coastal waters and out into Wolf Bay.

Your equipment

Kayak and canoe rentals currently are not available at the preserve. Don’t have your own kayak? No problem! Many area vendors will deliver rental kayaks to the site for your adventure. Be sure to educate yourself before using the equipment. Depending on the skill level of your group, you might consider bringing a guide along with you.

Your path

You will start at the launch and paddle up a slow, narrow stream. The peaceful area is surrounded by forest and tidal wetlands, so keep your eye out for fun sightings of creatures who make their home along your path. After you paddle about a mile downstream, you’ll reach the open waters of Wolf Bay. From there, you can turn north and continue on another mile to the Wolf Bay Park Launch. Check out the preserve’s kayak/canoe map to learn more about the trail.

Depending on the day, you just might see dolphins showing off in the bay! If you do, remember to be Dolphin SMART, and stay back at least 50 yards.
