Are you ready to make the long jump to the track & field season this spring? The warmer weather will be bringing in some fierce competitors, all eager to prove who can run the fastest, jump the highest, and throw the furthest. In the coming months, the Gulf Shores Orange Beach Sports Commission has five events scheduled to showcase the talents of rising track & field stars. Whichever event you attend, the finish line will be the same for everyone – the white sandy beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast!
Before the track & field season begins, collegiate athletes will begin warming up in Gulf Shores. On March 14-20, the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will play host to the 2015 University of South Alabama Spring Break Track & Field Training. Be sure to run by and check out the excitement!
The Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex is ready to welcome the first track & field competition of the season. On April 10-11, high school and collegiate track students will be competing at the 2015 South Alabama Invitational Track & Field Meet. The events are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 10. Saturday’s field events will start at 10 a.m., with running events starting at 11:30 a.m.
On April 24-25, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams will compete in theSouthern States Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The competition will take place at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores. Come support to your favorite teams and athletes as they compete for the conference championship title!
High school athletes from across the state of Alabama will be racing down to the Alabama Gulf Coast for the 2015 AHSAA State Track Championship. The event is set for April 30, May 1 and 2 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Over 1,500 students will compete in 17 events, such as shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, hurdles, dash and relay.
We want to get in one last run, jump and throw at the 2015 Sun Belt Track & Field Conference Championship on May 8-10. This track & field competition will wrap up a great spring season at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
