May is the month to grab your bicycle and head to Alabama’s Coastal Connection Scenic Byway as a way to celebrate National Bike Month.
A good place to start is Dauphin Island. The 3.5-mile paved Dauphin Island Bike Trail runs between Fort Gaines on the east and the public beach on the west.
Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores boasts 28 miles of paved trails or boardwalks, including seven Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trails As you cruise along these trails you just might spot bobcats and alligators. Pack a lunch and enjoy a casual ride on a trail shaded by Spanish moss-draped live oak trees.
A little way up the Scenic Byway, the Eastern Shore Trail takes you on a multi-use paved path featuring beautiful views of the bay and shade from a canopy of oak trees. The trail stretches from Fairhope to Daphne, so spend a full day exploring the bluffs of Mobile Bay and enjoying lunch in one of Fairhope’s many downtown restaurants.
We’re sure you’ll find your new favorite trail – or trails – for biking. Let us know which ones best suit your style.
