Want to help keep our beautiful beaches clean? You’re in luck! The 31st Annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 15. It’s not that we don’t appreciate beachgoers cleaning up behind themselves every time they visit the beach, but this is the one day each year our entire community pitches in to make it happen.
Whether it’s just you, your church group, your family or an organization, we need your assistance. Last year, volunteers removed more than 35,000 pounds of trash and 2,000 pounds of recyclable materials during the Alabama Coastal Cleanup. That’s a lot of trash, debris and waste that ends up on our beaches and in our waterways.
You’ll be in good company: More than 87,000 volunteers have participated in this event since Alabama joined the International Coastal Cleanup in 1987.
Check the list to choose from more than two dozen zones set up in Baldwin and Mobile counties. Register online, or just show up on Sept. 15 and sign up at the site.
