Road Trip on Alabama's Coastal ConnectionGood things take time, and when it comes to the Alabama Coastal Connection, it’s worth the extra time to take the scenic route. From incredible restaurants to charming small towns to white sand beaches, the Alabama scenic byway has everything you need to start planning your perfect summer road trip. Pack your bags, create the perfect playlist and get ready for summer fun on the Alabama Coastal Connection!

First thing to consider: Where to eat! From hole-in-the-wall eateries to fine dining, you’ll find it all along the beach byway. Although seafood is our specialty, we’re no strangers to BBQ, Cajun food and some of the best tacos around. We’ve got something for everyone! Just save room for dessert.

There’s no shortage of stops for the history lover along the byway. Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan are two Civil War-era forts chock-full of history. Spend the day exploring on your own or enjoy a tour or historical reenactment with guides dressed in period clothing. Either way, you’re sure to learn a lot and have a blast.

When in doubt, hit the beach! Coastal Alabama is known far and wide for its white sand beaches and clear blue waters, so make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and hit the beach in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Fort Morgan all summer long.

Foley Railroad MuseumTiny towns dot the Alabama Coastal Connection, and each one has something unique to offer visitors. Friendly faces and Southern charm are our specialties. Tour Old Town Daphne or the historic Bellingrath Home and Gardens in Theodore. Foley, known for its railroad past, and Fairhope, known for its odd beginnings, are both worthy of a stop as well.

Before hitting the road this summer, take a look at our thoughtfully planned beach byway itineraries and interactive map, or just go wherever the wind blows. Either way, don’t rush, instead savor the journey.
