Just six hours after General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, 26,000 soldiers fought the last significant battle of the American Civil War on the grounds of Blakeley State Park. Set beside the scenic Tensaw River and spanning 3,800 acres, this is the largest National Historic Register Site east of the Mississippi River.
Here, the beauty of nature and history combine to create a great outdoor family adventure. And don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the scenic memories. Hike along 10.5 miles of nature trails. Descend a hill that leads you to the mossy banks of the Tensaw. See prehistoric Indian mounds and the South’s most beautiful Ghost Town – the 1814 City of Blakeley. The park also offers guided tours reasonably priced for the family budget.
Open for day visitors from 9 a.m. to dusk, seven days a week. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Located at 34745 State Highway 225 in Spanish Fort, AL. For more information visit www.blakeleypark.com.
