From shores of the Gulf of Mexico and to the calm waters of Lake Shelby and beyond, Gulf State Park spans 6,500 breathtaking acres with an ecosystem crucial to the area. Here, kids and adults can find endless ways to experience nature and wildlife while exploring miles of hiking trails, three freshwater lakes, and 2.5 miles of white-sand beach.

The park’s Nature Center is a living museum of native plants and animals. Weekly programs include guided nature walks, beach walks, pier walks and more. The Interpretive Center hosts kids’ story time, sand castle building contests and nature talks. Kids can also enjoy learning about the importance of protecting baby Loggerhead turtles and their nesting areas through the “Share The Beach” program. Other park features include a beach pavilion, picnic area, fishing pier and a campground.

The Nature/Interpretive Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Park hours are from 7 a.m. to sundown. Located at 20115 State Hwy 135, Gulf Shores, call 251-948-7275 or toll-free at 800-ALA-PARK. Go to www.alapark.com for more information.
