Memorial Day Beach VacationMemorial Day weekend marks the start of summer, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate. Who doesn’t appreciate a long weekend along Alabama’s Coastal Connection? If you’re booking a trip along the beach byway this time of year, do it the right way. Here’s your guide to Memorial Day weekend on Alabama’s coast.

Book your stay
If you’re planning on hitting the beach, it might be a little late in the game to be looking for a beachfront condo. But there are plenty of other options to stay and play along the beach byway. Rent a beach house, book a hotel, stay in a bed and breakfast or rough it at a camping site.

Hit the beach
What’s Memorial Day weekend without some fun in the sun? Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is where you’ll want to be for white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and all the action. Keep in mind the local Leave Only Footprints ordinances, though: No glass on the beach, and everything left on the beach after sunset (tents, umbrellas, chairs, etc.) will be picked up and tossed.

Memorial Day Tribute at Fort MorganEat like a local
Don’t get us wrong, hot dogs are a Memorial Day tradition. But if you’re craving something other than the American classic, we’ve got options. Fresh, local seafood is available everywhere from casual eateries to fine dining restaurants. You really can’t go wrong.

Join in on the fun
Don’t miss out on the fun activities planned for the weekend. Enjoy a Memorial Day tribute at Fort Morgan complete with historical reenactments, a free music festival at LuLu’s in Gulf Shores and a firework display at The Wharf in Orange Beach.

While we never pass up a party, it’s important to keep in mind Memorial Day is a time to celebrate and show appreciation for those who lost their lives serving to protect our country. We hope you choose to celebrate with us along the beach byway!
