Good eats abound along Alabama’s coast, and it’s easy to see why! Our year-round growing season, access to the freshest gulf seafood, and our Southern traditions result in culinary creations that’ll leave you wanting more.

You can’t go wrong when eating your way along Alabama’s Coastal Connection, but you’ll love breaking bread at these favorite local eateries!

First, we’ll mention Lighthouse Bakery. Start your day on Dauphin Island with a fresh-baked breakfast pastry and cup of coffee from this locally owned bakery situated in a home built in 1912! Sweets not your thing? Lighthouse Bakery offers more traditional breakfast fare as well. You can’t go wrong ordering their most popular Sunday morning dish: an omelet with your choice of crab meat, ham or sausage.

Barnacle Bill’s is the place to go on Dauphin Island for live music, strong cocktails and daily seafood specials. This family-friendly spot, open since 1989, is known for its unique atmosphere and beautiful marina views. Try the shrimp club or the steak!

If you’re near Daphne, you won’t regret making a stop at East Shore Café. Serving up Southern specialties in a cozy cottage atmosphere, it’s a favorite of Daphne locals. Plus, Rover doesn’t have to wait in the car – this spot is pet-friendly!

Dragonfly Foodbar in Fairhope is a favorite of foodies. Serving up an ever-changing selection of locally sourced tacos, nachos, and poké bowls, there’s never a disappointment. Pair a fresh fish taco with your favorite beer, and finish it all off with some gelato for dessert.

Café Beignet is synonymous with breakfast in Gulf Shores. Beignets are squares of deep fried dough covered in powdered sugar, and there’s no way to enjoy them without getting a little messy. Be sure to arrive early, since they’re known to sell out fast.

Did you really go to Gulf Shores if you didn’t eat at LuLu’s? Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores is more than a dining experience. It can easily turn into an all-day hangout. The Pa-Menna Cheeseburger and the pulled pork nachos can’t be beat, and LuLu’s also boasts numerous allergy menus for those with dietary restrictions.

One thing’s for certain: When traveling along Alabama’s coastal byway, you won’t go hungry! Do you have a favorite stop along the byway?
