The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission is proud to present the 2015 Make it to the Line 4 Mile Run Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run on December 19 at the Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar! This event is a terrific way to help keep some of those extra holiday pounds off. Sign up to participate as an individual, or make it a family event with up to three members on a team. Each runner/walker will receive a run packet that includes T-shirts and other goodies. Trophies will be awarded three deep for all age groups in both the run and the walk, and other special awards will be given.
So what else is going on during the most wonderful time of the year? A Coastal Christmas on the Alabama Gulf Coast features holiday events for children of all ages. To kick things off, the Orange Beach Tree Lighting at Platinum sponsor The Wharf is scheduled for December 1, 2015. Get into the spirit with caroling, performances by local youth artists, Christmas medleys from Gulf Shores choirs and brass bands, the annual reading of the Christmas story, hot chocolate, writing letters to Santa, and cookie decorating! The evening culminates with the lighting of the Christmas tree and a visit from a very special guest: Santa Claus!
Another Coastal Christmas featured event is the 30th Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade, which will be held on Saturday, December 12 at 5 p.m. This breathtaking display is set to begin at Bronze sponsor LuLu’s at Homeport Marina. The parade will travel east down the Intracoastal Waterway Canal, pass The Wharf (public viewing area), and eventually end at Cobalt Restaurant in Orange Beach. The estimated time of completion is 8 p.m.
