The fish were really biting this summer in the waters off of Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, and the great news is they haven’t stopped! The Gulf Coast is a great destination for year-round fishing. The subtropical climate makes the fishing experience even more enjoyable when the fall season rolls around.
Fall officially begins on Sept. 22 this year; however, the temperature has already begun to drop just a few degrees. The opportunities to fish are abundant with options for casting your line in the backwaters, the bays and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Gulf State Park pier is a favorite spot for many anglers who enjoy pier fishing. The pier is 1,540 feet long and features an indoor seating and concession area, as well as a retail area for tackle and souvenirs. The pier also offers wheelchair-accessible rail fishing. A saltwater fishing license is required for those 16 and older, with the exception of Alabama residents age 65 and up. The license can be purchased onsite.
The Gulf water will remain warm for months to come and some fishermen decide to wade off the shore to fish in the Gulf. It can be an interesting experience to watch the fish swim about while you patiently wait to hook one. When you’re shore fishing, be mindful of nearby swimmers. A saltwater fishing license is required to shore fish.
