SummerTide Theatre, the professional summer theatre of The University of Alabama, returns for its eighth year to the George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center (home of the South Baldwin Community Theatre) with a country girl, trying to make it in the world, finding stardom and love aboard a battleship in the award-winning musical Dames at Sea!

Dames at Sea centers around Ruby, a talented tap-dancer from the country who longs for Broadway success…and finds it aboard a battleship.  In rehearsals for the next big Broadway hit (because the theatre is being torn down), Ruby falls in love with a sailor, Dick, who is also the show’s songwriter.  But problems arise when Mona, the show’s diva star, and the ship’s Captain try to stop their plans.  With help from their friends Joan and Lucky, everything ends happily ever after…for the show and for the three couples.

Dames at Sea, will run Friday, June 3 to Friday, July 1, 2011, with performances every Tuesday through Sunday evening at 8:00 PM at the George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center.  Tickets may be purchased during May by calling The University of Alabama Box Office at 205/348-3400 or (251) 968-6721 starting June 1st.  Tickets may also be purchased online 24/7 by visiting www.SummerTide.org.  Tickets prices are $18.00 for adults and $12.00 for anyone 12 and under.  The George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center, home to the South Baldwin Community Theatre, is located at 2022 West 2nd Street in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  Group rates are available.
